What BYoIP options are available?

Learn about the BYoIP (Bring Your Own IP) options available for colocation services.

PlanetNode offers BGP BYoIP (Bring Your Own IP) in three different configurations, allowing you to use your own IP address space with varying levels of control and complexity.

BYoIP option 1: Our ASN

Use your IP addresses with our ASN (Autonomous System Number). This option provides:

  • Simplest setup: Easiest to configure and manage
  • IP address control: Use your own IP address space
  • Our network management: We handle the BGP routing and network configuration
  • Ideal for: Customers who want to use their own IP space but prefer managed BGP

How it works:

  • Your IP addresses are announced via our ASN
  • We handle the BGP configuration and routing
  • You maintain ownership of your IP space
  • Simple to set up and manage

BYoIP option 2: Your ASN

Use your IP addresses with your own ASN. This option provides:

  • More control: Use your own ASN for routing
  • IP and ASN ownership: Full control over both your IP space and ASN
  • Independent routing: Your ASN handles the BGP announcements
  • Ideal for: Customers who have their own ASN and want full routing control

How it works:

  • Your IP addresses are announced via your ASN
  • You manage your own ASN and routing policies
  • Full control over BGP configuration
  • More complex setup, requires ASN management

BYoIP option 3: Your ASN with BGP Session

Use your IP addresses with your own ASN and a direct BGP session. This option provides:

  • Maximum control: Full control over BGP routing
  • Direct BGP session: Direct BGP peering with our network
  • Advanced routing: Configure complex routing policies
  • Ideal for: Advanced users who need full BGP control and direct peering

How it works:

  • Your IP addresses are announced via your ASN
  • Direct BGP session established with our network
  • You configure all BGP policies and routing
  • Most advanced option, requires BGP expertise

ASN Requirements

For options 2 and 3, you need your own ASN (Autonomous System Number). If you don't have one, you can obtain one from RIPE (for European operations) or another Regional Internet Registry.
