What network options are available?

Learn about the network options available for colocation services, including BGP, BYoIP, and port speeds.

PlanetNode offers flexible network options for colocation services, from 100 Mbit/s to 100 Gbit/s connections, with BGP BYoIP support and advanced networking features.

Port speeds

We offer network ports from 100 Mbit/s up to 100 Gbit/s, allowing you to scale your connectivity based on your needs:

  • 100 Mbit/s - Entry level connectivity
  • 1 Gbit/s (Gigabit) - Standard high-speed connectivity
  • 10 Gbit/s (10 Gigabit) - High-performance connectivity
  • 100 Gbit/s (100 Gigabit) - Ultra-high-speed connectivity for demanding applications

Scaling

Start with the speed that fits your current needs. You can upgrade to higher speeds as your requirements grow.

Network service types

We offer different network service types to meet various connectivity needs:

BGP Transit

BGP Transit provides full internet connectivity with BGP routing. This service includes:

  • Full internet access: Complete connectivity to the global internet
  • BGP routing: Full BGP routing and control
  • IP address space: IP addresses included (or use your own via BYoIP)
  • Use cases: Full internet connectivity, web hosting, content delivery, general internet access

DIA (Dedicated Internet Access)

DIA provides dedicated internet connectivity without requiring a router on your side. This service includes:

  • Dedicated connection: Direct, dedicated internet connection
  • No router required: We provide the routing, you don't need your own router
  • IP addresses included: IP address space is included with the service
  • Use cases: Simple internet connectivity, branch offices, small deployments, scenarios where you don't want to manage routing

Transport Only

Transport Only provides Layer 2 connectivity without internet access. This service includes:

  • Layer 2 connectivity: Pure transport without internet routing
  • Point-to-point or multipoint: Connect specific locations
  • Use cases: Private networks, metro connectivity, data center interconnection, private WAN connections

Availability

All network service types (BGP Transit, DIA, Transport Only) are available at all datacenter locations with no restrictions. Pricing and configurations vary by service type.

BGP BYoIP (Bring Your Own IP)

We offer BGP BYoIP services, allowing you to use your own IP address space. This gives you:

  • Control over your IP addresses: Use your own IP ranges
  • Flexibility: Move IP addresses between locations if needed
  • Network independence: Maintain your IP space regardless of provider changes

For detailed information, see our guide on BYoIP options.

EVPN-VXLAN spine

Our network infrastructure uses EVPN-VXLAN spine architecture, providing:

  • Modern network design: Industry-standard networking technology
  • Scalability: Supports large-scale deployments
  • Flexibility: Enables advanced networking features
  • Performance: Optimized for high-speed, low-latency connections

This architecture ensures reliable, high-performance networking for your colocation infrastructure.

Network connectivity

Our network provides access to:

  • Multiple internet exchanges: Direct connections to major exchanges
  • BGP peering: Extensive peering relationships
  • Diverse upstream providers: Multiple transit providers for redundancy

For educational networks and research institutions, we welcome peering across diverse exchanges. See our guide on peering for more information.

Network redundancy

Our network infrastructure includes:

  • Multiple upstream providers: Redundant connectivity
  • Diverse paths: Multiple network paths for reliability
  • BGP routing: Automatic failover and path optimization

Choosing the right network option

When selecting network options, consider:

  • Service type: BGP Transit (full internet with routing), DIA (dedicated internet without router), or Transport Only (Layer 2)
  • Bandwidth requirements: Current and projected traffic needs
  • BYoIP needs: Whether you need to use your own IP space
  • Routing requirements: Do you need BGP routing, or prefer managed routing?
  • Redundancy requirements: Single or multiple connections
  • Future growth: Allow room for scaling

Getting started

Ready to set up colocation networking?

  1. Request a quote: Visit our colocation page
  2. Contact support: Create a support ticket to discuss your network requirements
  3. Specify your needs: Include desired port speed, BYoIP requirements, and any special networking needs

Network Planning

Consider both current needs and future growth when selecting network options. It's easier to plan for scalability from the start than to upgrade later.
