How do I upload and manage website files?

How to upload and manage website files using the File Manager, permissions, and organization in DirectAdmin.

You can manage your website files with DirectAdmin's built-in File Manager or via SFTP.

Using the File Manager

1. Log in to DirectAdmin via the link in your welcome email, or go to my.planetnode.net, open your webhosting product, and click the login button
2. Go to Files → File Manager
3. Navigate to domains/yourdomain.com/public_html for your main website
4. Use Upload to add files, or create folders and files directly
5. Select files to Delete, Move, Copy, or Rename

File permissions

• Right-click a file or folder and choose Permissions
• Common settings: files 644, folders 755, scripts 755
• Avoid 777 for security reasons

Organizing your content

• Keep your main site in public_html
• Use subfolders for images, CSS, JS, or additional pages
• Ensure index.html or index.php exists in public_html for your homepage
