How do I make a backup?

Learn how to make a server backup of your Enshrouded Server to protect your world and progress.

Making regular backups of your Enshrouded server is essential to protect your world data, character progress, and base builds from unexpected issues.

Creating a backup via SFTP

  1. Connect via SFTP to your server.

  2. Create a folder on your computer (e.g., "Enshrouded_Backup_[DATE]").

  3. Navigate to your server's root directory.

  4. Download all files from the server to your backup folder, especially:

    • The savegame folder (contains your world data)
    • The server configuration files
    • Any custom settings you've modified
  5. Store your backup in a safe location on your computer or cloud storage.

How often should I backup?

We recommend creating backups:

  • Before major updates to your server or game version
  • After significant progress (building large structures, exploring new areas)
  • Weekly if you play frequently
  • Before making configuration changes

What's included in the backup?

Your Enshrouded server backup contains:

  • World data: All terrain, buildings, and placed objects
  • Player characters: Stats, skills, and inventory
  • Chests and storage: All items stored in containers
  • Server settings: Configuration files and custom settings

Restoring from a backup

If you need to restore your server from a backup:

  1. Stop your server in the game panel.
  2. Connect via SFTP.
  3. Delete or rename the current files you want to replace.
  4. Upload your backup files to the server.
  5. Restart your server from the game panel.

Server must be stopped

Always stop your server before restoring a backup to prevent data corruption or file conflicts.

Automatic backups

Your server includes automatic backup features in the panel:

  1. Go to your server in the game panel.
  2. Navigate to the Backups tab.
  3. Here you can:
    • View existing automatic backups
    • Create a manual backup instantly
    • Restore from a previous backup

Keep multiple backups

Don't rely on just one backup! Keep several backups from different dates to give yourself more recovery options.
