Making regular backups of your Hytale server is essential to protect your world data, character progress, and builds from unexpected issues.

Creating a backup via SFTP

1. Connect via SFTP to your server.

2. Create a folder on your computer (e.g., "Hytale_Backup_[DATE]").

3. Navigate to your server's root directory.

4. Download all files from the server to your backup folder, especially:

   • The world/savegame folder (contains your world data)
   • The server configuration files
   • Any custom settings or mods you've installed
   • Player data files

5. Store your backup in a safe location on your computer or cloud storage.

How often should I backup?

We recommend creating backups:

• Before major updates to your server or game version
• After significant progress (building large structures, exploring new areas)
• Weekly if you play frequently
• Before making configuration changes
• Before installing or updating mods

What's included in the backup?

Your Hytale server backup contains:

• World data: All terrain, buildings, and placed objects
• Player characters: Stats, skills, inventory, and appearance
• Chests and storage: All items stored in containers

Restoring from a backup

If you need to restore your server from a backup:
