How do I set up domain pointers or aliases?
How to set up domain pointers and aliases to redirect or alias domains in DirectAdmin.
Domain pointers and aliases let you connect extra domains to your hosting, either pointing to the same content or redirecting visitors.
Adding a domain pointer
- Log in to DirectAdmin via the link in your welcome email, or go to my.planetnode.net, open your webhosting product, and click the login button
- Go to Domain Setup → Domain Pointers
- Click Add Pointer
- Enter the domain you want to point (e.g.
www.example.comorshop.example.com) - Choose the target domain or subdomain
- Click Add
INFO
Pointers serve the same content as the target. Point www.example.com to example.com so both show the same site.
Adding a domain alias
- Go to Domain Setup → Create Alias
- Enter the alias domain (e.g.
olddomain.com) - Select which domain it should alias
- Click Create
Both the main domain and alias will serve the same website.
Redirects
To send visitors from one URL to another (e.g. HTTP to HTTPS or old domain to new):
- Use Redirects under Domain Setup
- Set source and destination URLs
- Choose temporary (302) or permanent (301) redirect
Nameservers
Ensure the new domain's nameservers point to PlanetNode: ns1.planetnode.cloud and ns0.xyphen-it.nl.
