How do I upgrade my VPS resources?

Learn how to add more RAM, CPU or storage to your VPS when you need more power.

As your website or application grows, you may need more resources. Fortunately, it's easy to upgrade your VPS at PlanetNode.

When should I upgrade?

You may need an upgrade if:

  • Your VPS regularly responds slowly
  • RAM usage is consistently above 80%
  • CPU is constantly at 100%
  • You're almost out of disk space
  • You expect more visitors or users

How do I upgrade my VPS?

  1. Log in to my.planetnode.net
  2. Navigate to your VPS service
  3. Click on "Upgrades/Downgrades"
  4. Choose your desired configuration (more RAM, CPU cores, or storage)
  5. Submit the request

The upgrade is performed manually by our team. You will receive a confirmation once the upgrade is completed. For advice on which configuration suits you best, you can also create a support ticket.

What can I upgrade?

RAM (memory)

More RAM means you can run more applications simultaneously and handle larger workloads.

CPU cores

More CPU cores provide better performance for intensive tasks and multithreading.

Storage (disk space)

More disk space for your files, databases and backups.

Bandwidth

More data traffic per month if you have many visitors.

Downgrading

Need fewer resources? Downgrading is also possible:

  1. Log in to my.planetnode.net
  2. Navigate to your VPS service
  3. Click on "Upgrades/Downgrades"
  4. Choose your desired lower configuration
  5. Submit the request

Our team will perform the downgrade manually for you.

WARNING

When downgrading, you must ensure that your current usage fits within the new resources. First make a snapshot to be safe!

How much does an upgrade cost?

The cost of an upgrade varies depending on which resources you add. You only pay for the extra usage:

  • You'll see the new price before you confirm
  • The difference is calculated pro-rata from the moment of upgrade
  • Your next invoice will be automatically adjusted

Downtime during upgrade

Most upgrades can be performed with minimal downtime:

  • RAM/CPU upgrade: often a few minutes downtime
  • Storage expansion: sometimes possible without downtime
  • Our team schedules this outside peak hours when possible
