How do I back up and restore my website data?

How to create backups and restore website data in DirectAdmin.

Regular backups protect your website. DirectAdmin lets you create and restore backups from the control panel.

Creating a backup

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via the link in your welcome email, or go to my.planetnode.net, open your webhosting product, and click the login button
  2. Go to Account ManagerCreate/Restore Backups
  3. Choose what to include (files, databases, email, etc.)
  4. Click Create Backup
  5. Download the backup file when it's ready, or keep it on the server

TIP

Include both Files and Databases for a full site backup. Download backups to a safe location off the server.

Restoring from a backup

  1. Go to Account ManagerCreate/Restore Backups
  2. Under Restore a local backup, select the backup file
  3. Choose what to restore (files, databases, email)
  4. Click Restore

WARNING

Restoring overwrites existing data. Make sure you have a recent backup before restoring.

Uploading a backup to restore

  1. Go to Create/Restore Backups
  2. Use Upload to upload a backup file from your computer
  3. Then select it and restore as above

Automated backups

PlanetNode may run system-level backups. For extra safety, create and download your own backups regularly, especially before major changes.
