How do I make a snapshot of my VPS?

Learn how to make a snapshot (backup) of your VPS to keep your data safe.

A snapshot is a point-in-time copy of your VPS at a specific moment. This is handy for creating backups before making major changes, such as updates or configuration adjustments.

What is a snapshot?

A snapshot contains:

  • The complete state of your VPS
  • All files and configurations
  • Installed software and packages
  • Databases and other data

With a snapshot you can restore your VPS to an earlier moment if something goes wrong.

How do I create a snapshot?

Snapshots cannot currently be created independently. To have a snapshot created:

  1. Create a support ticket
  2. Mention that you want to create a snapshot of your VPS
  3. Provide a recognizable name for the snapshot (for example "Before update 15-10-2025")
  4. Our team will create the snapshot for you

TIP

Creating a snapshot can take several minutes, depending on the size of your VPS. You'll be notified via the ticket when the snapshot is ready.

Restoring a snapshot

If you want to restore your VPS to an earlier snapshot:

  1. Create a support ticket
  2. Mention which snapshot you want to restore (with name or date)
  3. Our team will restore the snapshot for you

WARNING

Note: When restoring a snapshot, all current data on your VPS will be replaced with the data from the snapshot. All changes after creating the snapshot will be lost.

Best practices for snapshots

  • Before major updates: Always request a snapshot before performing important updates
  • Regularly: Consider requesting snapshots regularly (for example before important changes)
  • Clear names: Give your snapshots clear names with date and reason
  • Cleanup: Let us know if old snapshots can be deleted to save space
